Chapter Summary

After a cursory demographic survey, this chapter begins with a brief history of the foundations of Pentecostal-Orthodox contact and the growing interest of Pentecostal scholars in Orthodox theology. Related to this are the challenges faced by Orthodox scholars engaged in ecumenical consultations with the western Christian world. The chapter engages with Yong in one of the few specific areas in which he has invoked an Orthodox voice: the presentation of Metropolitan Georges (Khodr) of Mount Lebanon to the World Council of Churches Central Committee in 1971 on the theme of interfaith dialogue. It shows that a full reading of Khodr's presentation reveals that his main conclusions are, in fact, primarily Christological and ecclesiological, and not mainly pneumatological, and therefore more consistent with Zizioulas and Yannoulatos than not.

Keywords:Christological approach; ecclesiological approach; ecumenical consultations; Orthodox theology; Pentecostal-Orthodox contact; pneumatological approach; theology of religions; western Christian world
