Chapter Summary

This appendix of the book deals with formation of the Catalan Central Committee of Anti-fascist Militias, which acted as the authentic and sole government of Catalonia until September 1936. The appendix explains why the militias were created. The Generalitat relies on its usual bodies to ensure public order, and it has the aid of the militias in cases of provocation from the reactionary forces, since the militia forces are under its control. The militias request help from citizens and ask that if anyone hears of place where looting is occurring, they immediately inform the Central Committee of Militias. The militias are responsible both for people's lives and for their property. The Supplies Commission will take care of distributing food to the militias stationed both in city and on the war front.
