Chapter Summary

This appendix of the book provides a public order that proved a major problem in the Republican rearguard after war broke out. All the Catalan trade union and political organisations made appeals of all kinds to avoid the excesses being committed indiscriminately by groups of incontrolados. After the formation of the Unity Government in September 1936, the Committee for Catalan Internal Security was established. To prevent this danger, the Committee for Catalan Internal Security is set to continue the work of defending and stabilizing the revolutionary order according to the needs of the moment. This Committee, like all the revolutionary bodies being created, comprises representatives from all the political and trade union organisations of the Catalan anti-fascist front. The help that the organisations must offer the Committee for Catalan Internal Security cannot be simply formal.

Keywords: Catalan anti-fascist front; Catalan internal security; Catalan trade union; political organisations; public order; Republican rearguard
