Chapter Summary

Beginning on 23 December 1938, the Francoist offensive along the entire Catalan front and the enemy's advance throughout Catalan territory was unstoppable. To mobilise Catalan citizens, continuous calls were made for resistance at any cost. It was one last attempt to prevent what seemed to be the inevitable fall of Catalonia. A popular uprising against the foreigners has come to destroy the nation and to assassinate the women and children. This patriotic fervour, this popular uprising must remain in the ascendency, accelerating its pace until the victory is assured, until Spain's independence and the liberty of Catalonia and the Catalan people are assured. While the army selflessly and heroically fulfils its mission to stop the invading avalanche, all non-combatants have the immediate and inescapable obligation to aid, consolidate, and fortify this resistance.
