Chapter Summary

This index presents a list of terms and concepts relevant to the study of Joseph Seniri's commentary on the former prophets. The commentaries written by Joseph Seniri in the early thirteenth century are didactic works whose main objective is the study and the explication of the biblical text. Joseph Seniri follows the Provençal tradition of Jewish exegesis which combines the teachings of northern France with those of Spain. It is possible that he developed his commentary from a basic exegetical substratum, especially in the final chapters of the book of Judges. Seniri was also aware of Samuel ha-Naggid's grammatical thought to which he makes implicit reference.

Keywords: Jewish exegesis; Joseph Seniri commentary
