Chapter Summary

This index presents a list of Latin words that are discussed in the book Light from the Gentiles: Hellenistic Philosophy and Early Christianity. Abraham J. Malherbe's essays laid the groundwork for his magisterial commentary on the Thessalonian correspondence and launched the contemporary study of Hellenistic moral philosophy and early Christianity. The chapters come from a period of more than fifty years, beginning with some less technical pieces written for the needs of a conservative constituency. The collection as a whole mainly reflects author's interest in the interface between early Christianity and ancient philosophy, and in recent decades, particularly that between Paul and his heirs and their cultural environment.

Keywords: Abraham J. Malherbe; early Christianity; Hellenistic philosophy; Thessalonian
