Chapter Summary

This chapter explains two examples of ritual forms that are hymns and mysteries that invade the religious life of the Greek East. The civic society of the spectacle seems more responsible for these ritual manifestations to changes in divine representation. The chapter combines ritual forms that were particularly well suited to image battles. In imperial times, praise of the human and divine recipients (which is the showpiece of the anthem) invades public life and epigraphic practice. The "mysteries" offered a ritual format variable geometry, depending on whether emphasized the close relationship with the god that you could open to all to make visible hierarchies when the bidding involves the entire population, including slaves, to the illustration of the gods. The original text of the chapter is in French.
