Chapter Summary

The research and drafting of this book formally concluded in June 2013, and the chapters of this book are current through that date. A number of developments occurred between June and September that require additional coverage, and are therefore consolidated in this addendum. Since the fall of the Qadhafi regime and the rise of the NTC the country has conducted elections and initiated reforms of its military and police forces, as well as its economy, as discussed throughout this chapter. The July 2012 elections marked the highpoint of Libyan efforts towards a democratic and inclusive form of government. Since then the situation has deteriorated, however. Beyond the occupation of governmental and ministerial buildings by various kata'ib discussed.
