Chapter Summary

A classifier is the word that immediately precedes the Quantifier in the Quantifier Phrase. Its reference can be more or less specific, depending on the category it belongs to. Some referents can be classified in more than one way. The choice of classifier depends on which property of the quantified noun used. Categorisation of the two major classificatory categories, Sortal and Mensural, is shown in a "Table". Sortal classifiers are explained in the second section. The sub-sections discuss the repeater classifiers, auto-classifiers, mensural classifiers, and quantifying of volume words. A classifier can be repeated between the last multipliable Round-Number numeral and Unit numeral. This use of more than one classifier is explained in the third section. The relationship between the noun and classifier is detailed in the fourth section. Fifth section discusses the origins of classifiers in Atong. List of classifiers is displayed in the form of a "Table".
