Chapter Summary

This bibliography of the book The Reception of Bodin presents a list of reference books and articles relevant to the discussion on the jurist-philosopher Jean Bodin. The book focuses on the investigation of the jurist-philosopher Jean Bodin's significance. The reception of Bodin was not just a French, but a Europe-wide phenomenon. That the reception of Bodin was essentially made by his readers is to some extent a truism. Among the "readers" of Bodin we find the great Italian jurist and religious reformer Alberico Gentili, the author of the De iure belli libri tres. Gentili became in 1587 Regius Professor of Civil Law at Oxford, where he taught until his death, in 1608.
