Chapter Summary

This chapter presents an overview on the Al-Ḥīra and the Sassanid. The political relations of the Persians to the neighboring Arabs beyond the Euphrates are very old and should start in Achaemenid time so that the Sassanid Arabia policy looks back on a long history of continuous exposure. Geopolitically considered the domination of the nomadic tribes living west of the Euphrates, has always been the goal of power in Babylonia. In some Persian sources Al-Ḥīra is even considered as a Persian establishment. With respect to the political function of the Sassanids it had to be a central concern of Lahmiden to maintain the goodwill of the Persian dynasty. For the later period there is credible evidence that there was a power-based and targeted initiated acculturation between the Al-Ḥīra and the Sassanid. The original text of the chapter is in German.
