Chapter Summary

This chapter provides a systematic account on various species in the family Geometridae. The systematic account includes wingspan, diagnosis, biology, distribution and comments. The wingspan is represented in mm. Diagnosis includes distinctive markings and colour and identical patterns. Eupithecia haworthiata has ground colour brownish grey, transverse lines fine, indistinct, and a slightly sinuate pattern. Discal spot is usually absent. Biological features include habitats of geometrid moths, adults and caterpillar and active seasons. Macaria artesiaria lives in willow scrub and moist meadows. The flight period is from late June to mid-August, from sea level up to 1500 above sea-level. The caterpillar feeds on willows (Salix). Distribution includes European-Central Asian, West European, Southern Europe (Spain, Andorra, France, Italy and Switzerland), Sicily, Mediterranean and northern Africa. Archiearis parthenias is distributed in Euro-Siberian region. Comments include morphological variation and recent discovery of species' presence in the distribution area.
