Chapter Summary

This chapter represents an intermediate form between classical grammar and the lexicon. The continuants of the basic linguistic causatives, iteratives, durative, perfective or secondary derivatives of the primary Proto-Slavic stem are discussed to describe the Aorist types and inflectional classes. The description of Aorist types begins with the clearest cases, where the stem formations that require speculation, are explained. Asigmatic Aorist finds outputs that are traced back to the primary Proto-Slavic thematic paradigm. The Slavic asigmatic Aorist as a residual form of the Indo-European imperfective past tense formation is considered unfavorable based on the diachronic analysis of the verbs. The new Slavic past tense is created relative to explanation of asigmatic Aorist class on the so-called Indo-European indicative past tense, and that the verbs in sigmatic and astigmatic classes are alike. Thus, the resulting paradigmatic gap is filled. The original text of the chapter is in German.
