Chapter Summary

This chapter contains edition and translation of al-Maqrīzī's Ḍawʾ al-sārī li-maʿrifat ḫabar Tamīm al-Dārī. Tamīm al-Dārī assumed a particular role in introducing Hebron to the Muslims' world vision. He appears to have served as the pivot of several historical traditions that circulated already during the Umayyad period. His name is mentioned in a variety of texts from these early years. Al-Maqrīzī devoted thousands of leaves to narrating the story of Islam. The introduction to his historical magnum opus is al-Ḫabar ʿan al-bašar.
