Chapter Summary

Throughout this course, the author was introduced to the history of international order and thought, the Italian doctrine and, last but not least, to the "ostinato rigore" terminological and conceptual; without forgetting that coquetry, very useful in this era of conformism, to divert the box to look elsewhere. Regarding history, what the author learned from Professor Peter Haggenmacher can be condensed by the words of a lawyer medievalist. Among other legacies of Nôtre which the author have treasure is the scientific need for historical perspective of international law and its institutions, which otherwise seems like the Byzantine icons. This chapter discusses the treaty between Frederick II and Ayyubid Sultan of Egypt, al-Kamil concluded in Jaffa in the year 1229. From the outset, it is clear that we are interested only to treaties of military alliance and/or political agreements between Muslim and Christian rulers.
