Chapter Summary

This chapter presents a list of contributors who dedicated their work to the book Sharīʿa in Africa Today: Reactions and Responses. The book provides a discussion of sharīʿa debate on the new Nigerian constitution during the second half of the 1970s and on the future role of Islamic law in the Federal Republic of Nigeria. It was only after the return to democracy in 1999 that twelve states of Northern Nigeria started to re-implement 'full sharīʿa' that is, all aspects of Islamic law in personal and in criminal matters.
