Chapter Summary

Public attic/issued memory are an artistic work on the collection, storage and disposal, where the outsourced makes visible again and stories can unfold. Attics, basements, storage and depots are places of compromise between use and disposal. There are many reasons to outsource things: they often do not seem dispensable, but they have to do in any way, which form moments of the identity. Man can no more keep all possible futures, like pasts open. Compulsive storage is no less problematic than reflection-free disposal. For the work public attic/storage flared, the author finds 35 people who were willing to put out of their stocks stored objects. Various media (photographs, video and sound recordings) have been used to the exhibit memory and to construct the spatial installation in Dresden City Museum that evokes the character of an attic. The original text of the chapter is in German.
