Chapter Summary

The census of the figurines whose origin is known allows, supplemented by the mining data, to develop a synthesis on the workshops of coroplathes of the Greco-Roman period. The survey begins with sites of Delta and the Memphis region, then those of Fayoum, Middle Egypt and finally to Upper Egypt and desert; the sites are referenced in alphabetical order to facilitate consultation. The research constitutes an essential stage if we want to first understand how the production works and also to highlight the specificities of certain workshops related to local cults. Large-scale production of molded terracotta is possible by the use of moulds. This chapter deals only certain technical manufacturing aspects; the different steps of production already treated in detail in previous studies, in particular those of W. Weber and of E. Bayer-Niemeier. The original text of the chapter is in French.

Keywords: Ancient Egypt; figurines; Greco-Roman period; Memphis region; Middle Egypt; production workshops; technical manufacturing aspects; Upper Egypt
