Chapter Summary

This index of the book Key Papers on Korea: Essays Celebrating 25 Years of the Centre of Korean Studies, SOAS, University of London presents terms and concepts relevant to discussion of establishment of Korean Studies in the wake of the 1946 Scarborough report on Oriental, Slavonic, East European and African Studies, which revealed glaring deficiencies in the British capacity to provide expertise on overseas governments and people in East Asia, Africa and Eastern Europe, and recommended expansion of language study in the above areas. The Scarborough Report was partly a response to the general complacency that marked British official attitudes towards not only their Asian allies but also a motivated Asian foe.
