Chapter Summary

This chapter presents an overview on the Olav's hagiographic dossier of Saints including a series of texts, traditionally called Passio Olavi which contain information about the lives of the saints and the circumstances of their death and miracle stories. The specific text can be distinguished according to different traditions complexes: the high medieval text corpus is referred to as Recensio I and late medieval text corpus is referred to as Recensio II. The Recensio I and Recensio II form an integral part of the Olav's hagiographic dossier of Saints. Seven manuscripts of Recensio I are known from the end of 12th century to the beginning of 16th century. None of them is from Norway. The Recensio II is attested by two late medieval manuscripts and takes a unique position within the Olav's hagiographic dossier of Saints. The original text of the chapter is in German.
