Chapter Summary

This front matter section contains the table of contents relevant to the book Religionsgeschichtliche Studien. This book presents essays on the history of religions of the Hellenistic Age. Wilhelm Bousset, the author of the book, took a lot of effort to make the meaning of his theology for the social problems and to build up the Church clearly. The alienation of the working masses of church and religion, the dangers of only materialistic living and social distress were real questions for him that drove him to the active political work and lecturing activities. His inspired series "Religionsgeschichtliche chapbooks" had great success. The book was aimed to the elementary school teachers, where religious instruction was entrusted. Research in the field of late Judaism, Gnosticism and Hellenistic syncretism were finally used by Bousset for lightening the Christian origins. The original text of the chapter is in German.
