Chapter Summary

This bibliography of the book Paolo Sarpi: A Servant of God and State presents a list of reference books and articles relevant to the brief analysis on the linkage between history and politics. The book argues that, for Sarpi, history was an important rhetorical tool and a key element of the art of ruling. Sarpi, while insisting on Venice's absolute independence from any external authority, showed no interest in the republican aspect of the myth of Venice.
