Chapter Summary

This front matter section presents the table of contents, introduction and abbreviations of the book The Didache in Context: Essays on Its Text, History and Transmission. Though the text of the Didache was only "rediscovered" and made available for scholarly study a litde over a century ago (1873 and 1883 respectively), the casual observer is immediately struck by the extensive amount of research time and literary production which has been expended upon this short, early Christian writing. The book provides a frame of reference for the academic study of the Didache and its role within early Christianity.
