Chapter Summary

This index of the book Sayings of Jesus: Canonical and Non-Canonical: Essays in Honour of Tjitze Baarda presents a list of proper nouns, terms and concepts relevant to the discussion on the Marcosians' Text of Jesus' Cry of Jubilation. In his study of Aramaic as a cause of textual variants, the late Matthew Black laid stress upon a variant found in a patristic quotation. The form of the saying is attributed by the heresiologist to the Valentinian group known as the Marcosians. The text has been preserved by Epiphanius. Merx believed that this reading was not only that of the Marcosians but that of the text accepted by Irenaeus himself.

Keywords: Marcosian; Matthew Black; Tjitze Baarda
