Chapter Summary

The story of the mission of two unnamed spies to Jericho and their memorable visit to the Canaanite harlot Rahab is from a different material than the deuteronomistic exposure in Joshua 1. In Joshua 2 there is a story created according to the rules of the Hebrew Arts. This chapter discusses three key findings in the recent research on the Joshua 2: First, the Rahab story is to be regarded as uniform literary language text, secondly the Rahab story is regarded as a single text and finally subsequent insertion of Rahab in the Deuteronomistic narrative description of land acquisition. The investigation of the deep structure of the text and its literary references will confirm the central position of the Rahab story in the Joshua 2. The original text of the chapter is in German.
