Chapter Summary

This front matter section of the book Popularizing Anti-Semitism in Early Modern Spain and its Empire: Francisco de Torrejoncillo and the Centinela contra Judíos (1674) contains the table of contents, acknowledgements, abbreviations, list of illustrations and the foreword. The work Centinela contra Judíos puesta en la Torre de la Iglesia de Dios represents the culmination of over two centuries of anti-Semitic polemical literature in early modern Spain seeking to popularise anti-Semitic resentment and prejudice. The book offers the first historical analysis of the Centinela as well as the first translation into English of a source that is vital to understanding of the history of anti-Semitism in the Hispanic world. The first section of the book includes a history and analysis of the Centinela in four chapters and the second section offers an edited translation of the original text from Spanish into English with references to, and biographies of, Torrejoncillo's sources.
