Chapter Summary

The first part of this title comes from the famous French orthodox theologian Olivier Clément. Masao Abe, who had a degree in Christian theology as well, could be considered as the most important Buddhist representative in the Christian-Buddhist dialogue as well as in the dialogue between religion and the modern world. In the death of the ego, the standpoint of the 'self, trying to establish the self' collapses from its foundation. This is the 'contrition of the heart' in the psalms, metanoia, or conversion in Christianity and awakening in Buddhism. Abe deals in a surprising way with the link between Emptiness and Love. This link was also emphasized by Olivier Clément where he says that "the language of Emptiness is the language of Love". Katsumi Takizawa's work is focused on the fundamental questions between Buddhism and Christianity and on the uniqueness of Jesus Christ.

Keywords: Christian-Buddhist dialogue; Jesus Christ; Katsumi Takizawa; language of Emptiness; Masao Abe; metanoia; Olivier Clément
