Chapter Summary

This index presents a list of concepts discussed in the book The Postcolonial Orient: The Politics of Difference and the Project of Provincialising Europe. The book is an engagement with what is commonly understood nowadays by the term 'post colonialism' in American and British universities and, to an extent, in the ex-colonial countries themselves. The 'postcolonial' might once have referred primarily to the agendas of development and distributive justice that informed the concerns of the first two generations or so of progressive thinkers and public figures with the end of the formal colonisation of a number of countries of what was once called the 'Third World'.

Keywords: British universities; postcolonialism; third world
