Chapter Summary

This chapter presents a report on the survey results of general learning and living conditions of rural primary school students and junior high school students respectively, and builds up statistical models to explore the influencing factors of the students' academic performance. Rural education has always been the focus area as well as the week point in China's education development. Explanatory variables in the chapter include ethnicity, gender, whether parents are migrant workers, whether the student had been to kindergarten or preschool, extracurricular or weekend arrangement, questions that teachers asked in classes, students' self-expectation in future education, whether the student lived in school, and whether the student had been to village school. Most of the students hoped to receive college education and live in urban area or even overseas in future, while few of them planned to work in farms or become herdsmen.
