Chapter Summary

This chapter analyzes the speech delivered in Tsinghua University by Wen Jiabao on September 14, 2012. Wen Jiabao recalled Mr. Qichao Liang who had been a Tsinghua Professor. Qichao Liang encouraged students to become "a man of strong principles and integrity" by quoting The Book of Changes. During the construction of the new China, scholars from Tsinghua made vows of "devoting myself to the country", and involved in the research of "two bombs and one satellite" anonymously. People also come from the sociocultural individual characteristic, the advocate of rationality, the respect for science, and the popularization of civil education. With their comprehensive knowledge, wisdom and intelligence, rigorous and rational academic character, these scholars made a perfect interpretation of the grand masters' motto by embodying "the spirit of independence, the freedom of thought".
