Chapter Summary

Education equality, especially the problem with rural children entering universities, is a concern of millions of people. This report by Tsinghua University Research Group integrated the research data in 2010 and 2011. In the report, there are several criteria to define "rural children". They are agricultural "registered children", "rural areas children", and "peasants' children". The report describes the percentage of rural students compared with all currently enrolled students in colleges and universities, the trend, and the level differences among these colleges and universities. It analyzes the number of times that the rural students have taken the college entrance exams, and the final results. The report reviews the opportunities of recommendation for admission to universities and independent recruitment for the rural students. It describes the relationship between parents' education level and their children's opportunities to get post-secondary education, and provides the relevant policies suggestions.
