Chapter Summary

In a noun phrase the adjective usually follows the noun that it modifies. Some adjectives occur before the modified noun. The deictic pro-adjective is attested before the modified noun in almost every case. A deictic pro-adjective often occurs both before and after the modified noun in interrogatives. Where the independent genitive particle nay is used between nouns to express qualification or possession, the modifying noun usually follows the modified noun. Qualification and possession are frequently expressed by a noun sequence without nay. This is called a construct sequence. In some instances a prepositional phrase follows the copula. A simple sentence is defined as a verbal clause in which there is neither a subordinate clause nor a relative clause. In a temporal clause the conjunction usually occurs at the beginning of the clause or immediately before the verb of that clause.
