Chapter Summary

This index of the book The Military and Colonial Destruction of the Roman Landscape of North Africa presents terms and concepts relevant to discussion of the impact made by the French army and colonists on the ancient landscape of Algeria and its monuments. Survival in Algeria required the import of almost everything from metropolitan France, because there were no local industries or sources of supply along the North African coast. Triumphalism had certainly been an element running through many commentaries on Algeria from 1830 onwards.
