Chapter Summary

This bibliography presents a list of names of persons, reference articles and books relevant to discussion of art and architecture in Ladakh. Ladakh's particular interest to scholars lies in its status as a region with close religious and cultural affinities with Tibet that at the same time looks west to Kashmir, south to the Indian plains and north to Turkestan/Xinjiang. The history of Ladakh's art and architecture entered a new phase after the fall of the Tibetan empire in the mid-ninth century and the establishment of a Tibetan dynasty in western Tibet.

Keywords: Kashmir; Ladakh; Tibet
