Large hoverflies with a petiolate body, that live in oak-birch forests often mixed with pines. The adults have a very limited flight period of one to two weeks. The larvae are associated with ant nests. This chapter also contains a diagrammatic representation of Doros profuges, habitus of male (Verlinden).
