Chapter Summary

Sphecomyia are rare, boreal hoverflies that live along rivers and streams in boreal forests. These large, yellow and black hoverflies are excellent mimics of social wasps. It is a single species (Sphecomyia vespiformis) in Northern Europe and Northern Siberia. The face of the species is yellow with black stripe and tergites are black with yellow bands.
