Chapter Summary

This chapter presents the biographies of Ambassador Satya N. Nandan, Michael W. Lodge, and Myron H. Nordquist. Ambassador Nandan's association with the Law of the Sea began in 1970. He was among the conference leaders and played an active part in the negotiations on a number of the most difficult issues during the protracted negotiations leading to the adoption of the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea. Some of Michael Lodge significant achievements include his pivotal role in the International Seabed Authority from its inception in 1996 and in helping to create and implement the first international regulatory regime for seabed mining to have environmental protection at the centre of the agenda. Professor Nordquist was an attorney advisor and legislative counsel in the Department of State Office of Legal Adviser from August 1970 until January 1978.
