Chapter Summary

This front matter section of the book Josephus in Early Christian Literature and Medieval Christian Art contains a detailed table of contents and the introduction. With the exception of the Bible no other ancient text is as important for the history of Judaism and Christianity as the works of Josephus. The chapter considers that after 70, the Jewish religious environment and educational climate changed, and a gradual withdrawal occurred from the universal languages of Greek and Latin into the securely enclosed environs of the Hebrew language.
