Chapter Summary

This book discusses the information about the symposium which took place at the Theological faculty of Groningen on the 17 -18th of Oetober 1997. It explores the developments occurring during the last few years in the different areas of study of the Old Testament and of Early Judaism, to signal the new perspectives opened in these areas and to map the directions in which the research will be moving during the third millennium. This chapter analyzes the new perspectives in the study of the Pentateuch (Seebaß), the Prophets (Jeremias), the Psalms (Spieckermann), Chronic1es (Beeking) and Daniel (Collins). The theology of the Old Testament describes as talk of God to qualifying Hebrew, Aramaic and Greek texts in the light of historical, regional and sociologically differentiated processes from the world of carrying them faith communities and their development into larger literary corpora which have led to that different text corpora have been accepted in view of their contribution to today's speech of God as a witness of faith.
