Chapter Summary

This chapter provides an overview of the extent of Samuel and Saul relevant texts in 1 Sam. The first meeting between Samuel and Saul in 1 Samuel 9.1 to 10.16 is embedded in the context of setting up a new institution in Israel, the monarchy, the prevailing line instance of the "judges" for Israel by Joshua. Starting from the diachronic analysis of 9,1 to 10,16, in which a editorial layer is visible, even the analysis of further Samuel Saul texts have been substantiated the adoption of a Samuel Saul composition (SSK). The image of the prophets "Samuel and the representation of kingship of Saul are searched. In the biblical tradition, the historical experience of Israel plays a central role for the religious symbol system of Israel. The original text of the chapter is in German.
