Chapter Summary

The influence of the Panoplia Dogmatike can be found in several editions, but direct references to the Panoplia are found in a book printed in Bucharest, two decades before the edition of the Panoplia itself. In 1690 Patriarch Dositheos Notaras published in Bucharest, in one volume, two anti-Calvinist treatises. The more recent reference to the Panoplia comes from the text of the Orthodox Confession of Patriarch Dositheos. The account of Patriarch Dositheos on the Panoplia was influenced by the writings of the educated Orthodox theologian Meletios Syrigos whom the Patriarch sincerely admired. Meletios Syrigos mentioned the Panoplia in his work Against the Calvinistic Articles. Concerning the Panoplia, at first sight the account by Syrigos adds one more heresy to those refuted by the anthology. The concept that a part of the Panoplia may be related to the teachings of Berengar is an interesting invention.
