This chapter focuses on omniradiate cells, which are cylindrical, fusiform or ellipsoid, with a cell wall that is composed of one single piece and light-microscopically unsculptured. It describes Cylindrocystis, which are cylindrical or ellipsoid cells, with broadly rounded poles, straight or curved. Per cell two chloroplasts, in cross-section more or less star-shaped. Cell sap can be coloured purplish. The chapter talks about Mesotaenium, which are cylindrical with rounded poles, straight or slightly curved. Per cell one ore two axial, plate-like chloroplasts. Cell sap can be coloured purple by anthocyanin. It then focuses on Netrium, which are fusiform, ellipsoid or cylindrical cells with robust dimensions. It also focuses on Roya, which elongate with rounded or truncate apices, mostly slightly curved. Further, the chapter explores Spirotaenia, which are cylindrical, ellipsoid or fusiform cells with rounded or acute apices, straight or slightly bent. Finally, it deals with Tortitaenia.
