Chapter Summary

This chapter presents four tables, where the first table contains general ecology such as number of generations, adult, development, hibernation, eggs, food and habitat of genera and species. The second table presents saprobity and oxygen content of genera and species. The oxygen contents were measured in the water column, but estimation of saprobity has to take more than just the water column into account. An important part of the decomposition takes place on the bottom. The third table provides pH and chlorinity of genera and species. The last table contains current and permanence of genera and species. The given velocities apply only to stagnant water, brooks and small streams. They are thought to have been measured 10 cm below the surface (if not near the bottom) in the middle of the stream.

Keywords: Chironomini Larvae; chlorinity; hibernation; pH; saprobity
