Chapter Summary

This chapter presents a list of photographs relevant to analysis of the study of Buddhist cave architecture and its painting as expressions of a local form of monasticism. These include photographs of caves such as Tograk-eken, Qizil, and Taitai'er. By drawing on data derived from archaeology, religion, and art offer a new interpretation of the construction and painting of Kuča caves which reveals the tight connection between religious teaching and practice.
