Chapter Summary

This index presents a list of names, terms and concepts with relevant to the discussion on Slave Trading in the South Atlantic presented in this book. The book offers the first set of essays on slave trading in the South Atlantic. These essays show that the Angola-Brazil complex was not the single commercial axis in this region and that Portuguese-Brazilian merchants were not alone in this business. The book focuses on the South Atlantic trading circuit, which commonly tends to be neglected in the English-language literature on the Atlantic slave trade, in part because it was dominated by Portuguese-Brazilian traders.

Keywords: Angola-Brazil complex; Portuguese-Brazilian merchants; slave trading; South Atlantic
