5 The Inventory of the Burials and their Contents

Chapter Summary

This chapter presents an inventory of burials uncovered at the Bodzia cemetery according to four basic groups of data. The first group of data includes the features of the burial pit: the absolute height of the upper preserved level, the state of preservation, the geographical orientation, the outline and the filling, the dimensions, the structures inside the pit, and the stratigraphy. The second group includes the following features: the age and sex of the deceased, the state of preservation of the bones, the orientation of the body and its location in the grave as well as the position in which the body was deposited, the arrangement of the bones, and the pathological changes in the bones. The third group concerns the grave goods, grouped into the following categories: costume and ornaments, tools, coins and equipment for trade, weapons, and other categories. The fourth group concerns radiocarbon dating.
