Chapter Summary

This index of the book The Mortuary Archaeology of the Medieval Banat presents a list of terms and concepts relevant to the discussion of the burial customs in use in the medieval Banat (10th-14th centuries). The cemetery excavated in Deta, which has produced several Köttlachtype ornaments, has been attributed to a community of Alpine Slavs, believed to have moved into the Banat in the early 9th century, following the destruction of the Avar Khaganate by the Franks.
