Chapter Summary

When the author examines the health community in Montpellier, he sees that it acts as a very large group constituted of number of communities which had various and distinct solidarities even if it could be interpenetration at certain values, of codes of conduct and conventions. Several types of family groupings and their structures depended especially on social status and family activities are found. The medical profession rarely adopted the dynastic strategy, at least not before the middle of 15th century. If studies on sociability cover a vast range of its events, it remains that initially they had relied on the forms of clubs and societies which remained one of the most important structures for the study of links of solidarity. The forms of urban solidarities show the doctors, barbers, surgeons and apothecaries to participate in extraprofessional activities: parties, pleasures, and user-friendliness. The original text of the chapter is in French.
