Chapter Summary

This chapter presents the preface addressed to the most honorable and all-powerful States of Holland and West-Friesland. The two foundations of the Christian Republic are Truth and Peace. The former provides the basis of spiritual relationship with God, while the latter is the basis on which one associates with fellow-humans on earth. It was with the same courage, and success, faithful preachers of the Gospel are introduced to the churches after they were swept clean of the desecrations done to the divine worship-service, so that they could expose to the light of day, as if in open theatres of wholesome truth. The Holy Scriptures had been obscured and oppressed by the Antichrist for so many ages, so that they might guide the common folk back along the path of truth to the goal, the harbour of salvation that Christ had obtained.
