Chapter Summary

The principal efficient cause of the Gospel is God, the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, with respect to both the divine decree of declaring it to mankind and the declaration itself. Regarding the declaration of the Gospel, God is the efficient cause, because this action by God, since it occurs toward the outside, is an action that is not divided among the Trinity. The Supper of the Lord is not just a ceremonial demand of the Gospel, as the Socinians think, but it is also a eucharistic sacrament that has been ordained as a celebration of the saving grace obtained for one by Christ's death and declared in the Gospel. The promises of the Gospel are especially about these two things: the justification in the presence of God through faith; the inheritance of eternal life.

Keywords: eucharistic sacrament; Father; God; Gospel; Holy Spirit; Son; Trinity
